Having taken over the organisation of the Junior Books Clubs, I’m enjoying conversations with students and staff about their picks. After a lively and full Community Book Club on 12th March – 16 participants from librarians to teachers and parents of Wellingtonians and OWs I’m feeling positive about the love of reading and interest in chatting about books! (we were discussing The Artist by Lucy Steeds and The Correspondent by Virginia Evans).
The sign ups for the Junior Book Clubs are in and we have 23 groups running in the Summer Term. Third and Fourth Form pupils sign up for the book of their choice (we try to accommodate 1st choices where we can but they provide a second and third in case popular book groups are full).
Students are given a copy of their book to read over the Easter holiday and there are follow up discussions in April when we return for the Summer Term. Librarians and teachers and selected L6th students offer a book and then lead an informal discussion. Tutors and boarding houses encourage their tutees to sign up and we offer a range of books to suit all readers – from non-fiction to classic literature, novellas to crime and popular science.
Here’s the list of books on offer
- The Cousins by Karen McManus
- Can You Run the Economy? An interactive adventure inside the Treasury by Joe Mayes
